Introduction
The Eastern Australian Floods in 2021 have been reported to be one of the most lethal and devastating disasters that has occurred in Australia in over six decades. It is
a sad plight Flood has become an annual event in Australia, which impose substantial social, economic and environmental costs on the communities.
· Direct damage to residential, educational, commercial, cultural and recreational industrial infrastructure
· Damage to equipment, stock and facilities for instance farm animals, commercial stock and records
· There are also indirect damages due to disruption of economic activities both are in the areas that are inundated as well as areas that were isolated.
· Injury of Death
As per reports Cappucci and Pannett (2021) certain parts of Australia is already around 35 inches of rain. Furthermore, scientists strongly believe that these floods represents hazards that are projecting new environmental hazard patterns. (Cave, 2021). All across the year, overall temperature of Australia is warmer by 1.4 degree Celsius that results into severe droughts there by causing more water vapors to rise in the atmosphere. Deep diving into facts it can be observed that majority of the flooding have been seem to be occurred away from the shores rather more towards inland throughout the rivers. While floods have swamped the country however, the most affected city is the state of New South Wales that has seen primary damages towards both livestock and people.
Taking into consideration flood footprints and statistics in Australia, it’s been observed that 525 different level 1 areas had reported tremendous flooding. Therefore, this covers population of 218,128, which was affected within 525 statistical areas. One of the primary factors for these catastrophic floods is climate change.
Context of the Public Health Emergency
Applying the approach to health emergency preparedness as well as response in this case was top-down. Existing initiatives that came into picture during the floods in Australia displayed that government was perhaps not prepared for flood of this intensity and magnitude. Australia was in the peculiar condition that caused the risk of the hazard of flood to worsen since the fires has occurred prior. If the fires were controlled or perhaps didn’t occur then it would be possible that the government and various communities may have, received better support and thereby better response to the floods. Federal government in Australia activated disaster relief for flood-affected NSW residents. Citizens who were significantly injured or had lost their homes or perhaps had their homes damaged will be entitled to $1,000 AUD for adults or $400 AUD for young children. With the sheer intensity and massiveness of these floods, Australian government was perhaps overwhelming and reactive with their response. Besides the reactive measures, they were able to conduct more than 700 rescues. Essentially, flood response operations in NSW, Australia could consist of
· Distributing flood-related information and warnings to the community
· Ensuring important services are provided to people and such services were maintained or perhaps quickly re-established at ground level.
· Maintaining necessary access routes
· Ensuring maintaining, protecting and repairing existing structural mitigation works
· Establishing expedient...
