Introduction
In today’s fast paced world one of the main challenges faced by
the human society is with the challenge of health-related ailments. These health-related ailments are mainly chronic in nature, and they are mainly caused because of the poor lifestyle. Australia is considered as one of the developed nations around the world, however, still this country faces severe issues with the chronic health disease particularly with the Aboriginal community people. This kind of health challenge is putting a huge burden on the healthcare system along with the general societal structure. In this report a detailed discussion is done with respect to the community health and disease prevention intervention particularly with the Aboriginal community people in Australia.
The Target Group
The target group in this case is the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders of Australia, including the male and female indigenous populations, both having a shorter duration of lives compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts. As discussed by Martins et al. (2019) that there a number of chronic diseases they suffer with, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and the renal disease, which significantly contributes towards the burden over the healthcare sector and also it is contributing towards the increased morbidity rate also. This rate of morbidity is increasing almost 10 years earlier and also 2-5 times the rate with respect to other Australian, particularly the non-Indigenous group of people. Among all the chronic disease, there is also increased cases of lung cancer among the Aboriginal people, which is most common among them (Calma, Dudgeon & Bray, 2017). Since, the increased incident of smoking and use of varieties of drugs is the major reason behind the increased lung cancer, and also it is contributing towards the increased morbidity rate (Lima et al., 2019). Because of the poor societal condition, lack of proper nutrition, lack of proper healthcare system, and the association is the leading cause of the lung cancer issues among them, which requires proper intervention in order to resolve the issues among them.
Framework for Community Based Health Promotion
The increase cases of the lung cancer among the Aboriginal community people is a serious matter of concern, and the government is trying to intervene through a number of initiatives. (2018) that the Australian government has taken a number of initiatives to intervene the issues faced by the Aboriginal people, such as the Aboriginal and Islander Community Controlled Health Services (AICCHSs), community health related services along with the general practices are implemented which are important and also significant enough component of the effort in order to close the gap of the health disparity faced by the Aboriginal people. Similarly, the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAICH) is considered as one of the leading efforts for the development of first Indigenous community-controlled Health Information System (HIS), which is designed to build the capacity of the AICCHSs for the continuing analysis, monitoring and the reporting of the clinical health data in the Queensland.
The Ottawa charter is one of the leading steps that has been taken in order to implement a number of health strategies to solve the issues related with the health of the people. As discussed by Tarkang et al. (2019) that the Ottawa charter identifies three important strategies for the health promotion, such as:
