Assessment 5 - CAD Project You are required to strip down the pneumatic cylinder provided to you, measure and sketch all parts and model them in SolidWorks (two end caps, cylinder, piston, piston rod, tie rods, bolts/screws, seals, etc.). In addition, you must complete an assembly in SolidWorks, including: 1. Exploded state 2. Two configurations (piston in and out positions) 3. Cutaway isometric 4. Three 2D manuf. drawings (end cap, piston rod and piston head) 5. Two 2D TLA drawings with cutaway isometric, alternative position and exploded views, BOM with balloons Check material is specified, colours used and weight (mass) is calculated for each part, origin position Part numbers 1 st Angle New: complete the title block of all 2D dwg sheets, i.e. type in your name & date, etc. This assessment is worth 40% of the module marks Submission Deadline = Friday, 15 December 2023, 11:59 PM Tips:  Model parts as efficiently as possible, e.g. use the mirror feature. Ensuring there is always a plane running down the middle of parts will help with this and will also make mating parts in assemblies easier.  Use cosmetic threads with thread details (pitch, etc.) given as a dimension on your 2D dwg for the part. Never use cut threads – cut threads add no value and only act to slow down your computer and end up looking like a blob of ink on the 2D drawings. They also make mating of parts difficult.  For 2D dwgs – use the minimum number of views possible to give all the information required for manufacture.  Select a main view and project other views from that.  Scale the dimensioned views so as to use the full sheet space.  Take the time to fully dimension parts and pay close attention to the dimension formatting (refer to Assess. 3). Pneumatic Cylinder Construction Source: http://rdccontrol.com/industrial-cylinders/pneumatic-cylinders/pc-series/ http://rdccontrol.com/industrial-cylinders/pneumatic-cylinders/pc-series/ How cushioning works: Cushioning is required to decelerate a cylinder's piston before it strikes the end cap. Reducing the piston velocity as it approaches the end cap lowers the stresses on cylinder components and reduces vibration transmitted to the machine structure. Cushioning screw fully open – no cushioning Cushioning screw fully closed – too much cushioning leading to very slow cycle time There is an optimum setting where cushioning is maximised and cycle time minimised Assessment 2: You are required to 1. Complete a 3D parametric model of all the parts shown. Parts should have material assigned and correct descriptions, etc. in the file properties. 2. An assembly with all parts, including an exploded state and configurations showing the linkage in 2 positions. 3. Select suitable method of fixing pins in place, and show in assembly. 4. Produce a manufacturing drawing (2D) of items, 1, 2, 4 & 5. 5. Produce an assembly drawing showing suitable views (section, alternative position, exploded) you should also have a complete BOM. 6. All files should have properties included so that centre of gravity can be displayed in assembly. Check out Moodle page for additional information including step by step videos Submission deadline = Friday, 27 October 2023, 11:59 PM This assessment is worth 20% of the module marks
