Assessment 3: Priority setting assessment
In Assessment 2 you conducted a health inequality audit for a zone from the Social Health Atlas. In your audit you uncovered inequalities in several health indicators.
For Assessment 3, you will write a report on the factors that may influence priority setting for these health indicators in your zone. Key factors influencing priority setting may include:•Alignment with governments’ priorities and targets
•Financial cost•Potential to produce improvement • Strength of evidence base. The report must contain:•Introduction of factors influencing priority setting including data comparison addressing social determinants of health; Identifying the scale of the problem; evidence of reading three recommended papers•Discussion of factors influencing priority setting including aligning the priority with governments’ priorities and targets; assessing the financial cost; potential to produce improvement; Strength of evidence base; Other factors considered;•High quality presentation, in terms of format, meeting general requirements for task; coherence of expression; and adherence to conventions of writing (spelling, grammar, length) and referencingLearn more about priority setting in these 3 papers. Introduction
Setting up the priorities, for health, helps in the maximization of the impacts for investments. This is specifically relevant in the case
of poor environments. The health prioritization plays a key role in the strengthening of the national health condition. Through the process of prioritization, the health harmonization will be carried out in the study for the Stormlands Kingdom. Under the priority setting, there are few factors that can be considered under practical considerations (Viergever, Olifson, Ghaffar & Terry, 2010). This includes the availability of the resources, focusing on the exercises, the values on which the stakeholders concentrate on and the environment where the research, health and political environment of Stormlands Kingdom depend.
It has been long accepted that the disease burden plays a risk factor, while the geographic scope in addition to intended timeframe assists in prioritizing the stakeholders for the health research (McDonald & Ollerenshaw, 2011). These stakeholders include researchers, funding organization, as well as policymakers. In the case of health inequality, there is a lack of health facilities among the population of Stormlands Kingdom. This inequality of health facilities has resulted in a gap in proper health achievement (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2017). The various social determinant that lays impacts on the priorities of the health in the Stormlands Kingdom includes the educational status of the people in the Stormlands Kingdom, accessibility of transports, environment in the Stormlands Kingdom and security.
Employment plays a primary factor in creating health inequality as well as inequity among the population of Stormlands Kingdom. It is also evidence from the audit of the healthcare status of Stormlands Kingdom that the main social determinants include decentralization of these health inequities and inequalities so that the country can overcome the lack in healthcare resources. The other issue that the Stormlands Kingdom faces is the inadequate resources for addressing the essential health demand of the people of Stormlands Kingdom. Due to this, the quality of health service has been degrading, due to which the inequality of the population has increased (Hanney, Gonzalez-Block, Buxton & Kogan, 2003). In this study through the utilization of three research articles, the various priorities, as well as the target of the Stormlands Kingdom government, will be evaluated on the basis of the financial resources and evidence available related to the required improvements.
Alignment with the Governments’ Priorities and Targets
The main target of the government of Stormlands Kingdom is to improve the overall health inequality among the population of Stormlands Kingdom (Poel, Doorslaer & Donnell, 2012). The various factors that drive the targets and priorities of the government in setting up health policies include child health among the population; the rate of premature mortality among the population is estimated by the self-assessed health and availability of the information (Viergever et al., 2010).
The government of Stormlands Kingdom needs to take the initiative so that the inequality, as well as the inequity of the zones within the Stormlands Kingdom, can be addressed in terms of resources and values of the stakeholders providing the health services. Education is an important aspect in order to resolve discrepancies in terms of health inequities. According to the audit that was carried out in the Stormlands Kingdom reveals that less than 70% of the children in Australia passed their vocational education in the year 2015. The value of literacy in the Stormlands Kingdom was found much lower than the other regions of Australia.
One of the targets of the Australian government is to address the lower level of education among the population of Stormlands Kingdom, which has resulted in the lower rate of employment, which proportionately affected the health status, and nutrition level of the population.
Another aspect, which the government needs to include in the health priorities of Stormlands Kingdom, is the healthy development of the children in Stormlands (McDonald & Ollerenshaw, 2011). Although in Stormlands, the rate of immunization is comparatively higher than the other zone of Australia; however, it was noted during the audit that most of the children in the region have low economic status. Due to this, it creates difficulty in accessing health benefits (Viergever et al., 2010). Hence, in this case, due to the low economic status of the...
