Assessment 3 - Individual Paper TASK DESCRIPTION (From the ECP) 10 Best Resources on... Type: Assessment 3: Paper Learning Objectives Assessed: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Due Date: 31 October 2016 Weight: 60% Task Description: Assessment 3 offers students the opportunity to develop a paper as first author in a format that would be acceptable for publication in one of the key international peer reviewed journals in international health policy: Health Policy and Planning. The particular format of the paper is to comply with an invited series “Ten best resources on...” where authors undertake a review of the peer reviewed and web-based literature on a specific topic, selecting what they believe to be the 10 best resources for understanding the issues involved. These are listed at the end of the paper and the structure of the paper includes a brief introduction to the topic with a clear rationale as to why the issue is significant, followed by a systematic presentation of the selected resources and discussion of their contribution. The paper should include a conclusion that synthesises the contents and offers a direction forward for further explorations. Examples of this form of paper are available from the Blackboard site. Students may select one of the following topics for their paper, or propose an alternative title for approval by the coordinator: “Ten best resources on...” Health in the Sustainable Development Goals Global Health Governance WHO post 2015 The Global Fund in the post 2015 agenda Managing emergent disease epidemics Managing the double burden of disease Addressing issues in the global health workforce Global Health Policy Analysis Universal Health Coverage Access to medicines Tiered funding of medicines for developing countries The Development Effectiveness Agenda after Busan The assignment is to be submitted in the format outlined in the instructions to authors, as if it was to be submitted for review for publication, but posted to the Blackboard assessment site, rather than submitted to the journal (yet!). This will include the full title page, author details, key words, word count, statements on funding, ethics and conflict of interest etc. Students will be marked on their compliance to these instructions in terms of type and font size, line spacing etc., and in terms of the comprehensiveness of their review of the literature and the coherence, salience and analysis in their presentation of the ten resources. Do not attempt to reproduce the formatting as articles appear in HPP--the guidelines for online submission provide the required format. The papers should be submitted in a format ready for submission for review by the journal Health Policy and Planning. Note that the required format is not as it appears in the journal, but as required for submission. The instructions are available at the author guidelines for HPP: http://www.oxfordjournals.org/our_journals/heapol/for_authors/index.html The word length of the assignment is not to exceed 5000 words. A suitable minimum is 3500 words. Associate Professor Peter Hill will work with student(s) authors whose work is close to publication standard to process these for submission. In some cases, the work of two or three students may be combined if that achieves a stronger analysis – authorship sequence will be negotiated based on individual contributions. The intention of the assessment is to encourage students to frame their thinking in terms of potential publication – and to demonstrate that it is possible - we have had two papers published from this exercise.
