Introduction
In the recent times, it has been observed that violence and aggression in the healthcare settings and this can directly lead toward significant physical, psychological along with the economic results for the institutions, victims and also the society in general. Some of the empirical evidence highlighted the fact that patient-initiated verbal and physical aggression can be stated as the longstanding issue that is affecting the healthcare workers in the psychiatric settings. On the other hand, it can be said that the positive social change might take place in the psychiatric hospital settings simply by enhancing and empowering the nursing staff’s knowledge for creating safe working environment and enhance the care that is provided to the patients. Furthermore, focusing on enhancing the assessment, emotional intelligence, de-escalation, as well as the communication skills for the nurses for managing the aggressive patients and the family members have found out to be quite effective in terms of enhancing the knowledge of the healthcare workers and reducing the intensity of patient violence in the mental health settings. It is needless to say that when the workplace is not at all safe then the ability of the healthcare workers for delivering quality and safe service that cannot be guaranteed. Hence, there is also a huge amount of need for implementation and adopting the evidence-based educational program for preventing the violent and aggressive attacks by the psychiatric patients so that the healthcare professionals will be providing quality and safe care for the patients.

At present there are different techniques that are used for managing the patient aggression in the psychiatric settings. Moreover, the techniques consist of using seclusion, chemical restraints, as well as the de-escalation techniques. Seclusion as well as using of the chemical restraints cannot be termed as the chemical restraints and they are also not at all evidence-based interventions that are extremely useful in managing the aggression of the patients (Ulrich et al., 2018).
