1. Introduction
For this paper, the case study 2 “Top 10 innovation in the hospitality Industry” has been selected. Hotel innovation is critical because it has the potential to alter the sector positively. Inventions in the hotel business have advanced at a breakneck speed in recent years (SOEG Jobs, 2021). It has been examined the top ten innovations in the hospitality sector in this article.
Considering this, sustainable operation in the hospitality industry will be discussed. Further, it will be examined the nine Business Model Canvas components in addition to apply them to the selected business. Lastly, a thesis statement will be made that summarises the findings of the research and suggests concrete, doable improvements.
Critical Analysis of Case Study
The authors suggest that in order to preserve and grow their competitiveness, Australian hotels must use digital platforms more extensively and professionally. They examine the significance of digital platforms in the hospitality sector and highlight five stages of the hotel industry's digital transformation. The results of a desk study and a case study are presented in this article, which demonstrate the relevance of digitisation in the hotel industry (SOEG Jobs, 2021).
Referring to this, a case study on sustainable operations in hospitality industry has been selected. The goal of this research is to use the Business Model Canvas technique to create an integrated business model that will allow sustainable restaurants to operate successfully. The empirical research enlisted the help of a panel of 19 academic and industrial professionals. The study's findings led to the incorporation of several environmentally friendly activities into a comprehensive model that encompasses the primary operations of sustainable restaurants (Mohammad & AbouElezz, 2020).
Background
A sustainable restaurant is one that serves a variety of organic or locally grown green foods while also implementing environmentally friendly measures such as waste reduction, energy and water saving as well as recycling. Three major components of a sustainable food operation are economic viability, environmental compatibility and social responsibility. It includes offering environmental conservation and contributing to community development, utilising environmentally friendly furnishings and goods, organic or seasonal food, minimising waste, along with conserving water as well as energy (Mohammad & AbouElezz, 2020).
In Australia, both branded restaurants and food entrepreneurs serve sustainable cuisine, as well as incorporating green measures such as minimising packaging, recycling food leftovers and up cycling furniture. The Ministry of Tourist and Antiquities promotes environmentally friendly practises in tourism and hospitality businesses, awarding a green star to businesses that follow specific sustainable standards.
Key Opportunities and Issues in the Case Study
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
The TFC April projections assume a US$0.99 per Australian dollar in 2013/14. In recent years, a rise in digital marketing and online booking systems has fuelled healthy competition and bolstered a domestic tourist market that is eager to study and book services online. Increased domestic and international volumes are projected to be supported by a robust and competitive aviation industry that pushes down air prices (Narayan, 2020).
Weaknesses
The recession in Australia's economy is projected to persist longer and be more severe than previously anticipated. It will almost certainly increase unemployment, reduce discretionary spending and erode consumer and corporate confidence. For the next two to three quarters, growth in domestic business travel is projected to be slow (limited by business confidence and restricted budgets) (Narayan, 2020). Because of a sluggish business segment, certain parts of the hotel industry are lowering average daily prices.
Opportunities
A falling Australian dollar is likely to boost tourism's economic value (Narayan, 2020) by improving Australia's affordability appeal to price-sensitive leisure, incentive and events sectors, increasing inbound visitors' travel budgets when they exchange their home currency for Australian dollars and shifting some outbound demand to domestic destinations because of the falling Australian dollar
Threats
China's new 'Tourism Law,' which went into force on October 1, 2013 and aims to combat activities like coerced shopping and low-cost, low-quality tours, may have a lengthier and more significant influence on that market's growth than the three to six months predicted (Narayan, 2020). In the longer run, the US debt ceiling will stay unresolved, putting not only the US but also other countries and regions in jeopardy.
Thesis Statement and Outcome
SWOT analysis refers to the good characteristics of the hotel, restaurant and so on, both tangible and intangible. Metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are critical components of this process because they provide real data that may be used to compare to other properties, brands, or comparable projects (Kelly, 2017). Weaknesses are factors that prevent the hotel from growing or performing at its best, or things that it lacks. Examine what the rivals do better than, as well as places where guests have left bad comments. An outdate website, the absence of specific amenities, budget constraints, negative internet reviews and a lack of in-room technology are all common hotel flaws. Business may also have weaknesses...
