Assessment 2
Assessment 2 Individual and Group activity to develop HOPE
Background:
An important behaviour of authentic leaders is
relational transparency
– the behaviour involves the ability to form and maintain effective workplace relationships. This involves being
emotionally self-aware
so that you can give and receive useful feedback respectfully. Once you receive feedback, authentic leaders accept feedback from multiple sources and then engage in rational processing in making decisions.
Purpose: The following assessment aims to promote skills associated with
GA6 Communication and social skills.
You are participating in a training program by giving and receiving feedback to, and from, fellow learners and using their feedback to improve your goals, sub goals and pathways (LO3). The exercise develops key authentic leadership behaviours: relational transparency, emotional self-awareness and regulation (required in giving and receiving feedback) and rational processing (in modifying your goals, sub-goals and pathways in response to feedback).
Marks
40%
Format:
1000 words
Tasks:
Step 1
– 500 words maximum – On blackboard, critique
the goals/sub-goals and pathways of four learners (assessment 1) and post your feedback (a maximum of 125 words of feedback for each of the four learners chosen). Give genuine and positively-focused feedback about the practicalities (how realistic are the goal/sub goal(s)) and access to resources (such as time, energy, commitments, funding) required. Identify any potential roadblocks in terms of strategies/pathways and provide some solutions to them.
Step 1 must be completed by Week 3 Sunday 5pm**
Step 2
- Submit a single word document via the Turnitin link.
(a) The first section of the document contains three parts. Part 1 is your original Blackboard posting (assessment 1). Part 2 is a copy of the feedback you received for assessment 1 from other learners. Part 3 involves you re-working your goals and/or pathways. It should demonstrate how you have used the feedback from fellow learners to modify your goal and/or sub-goals and/or strategies/pathways). Part 3 expects you to demonstrate rational processing and therefore attracts the most marks (500 words).
(b) The second section includes a copy of the assessment 1 feedback you posted on Blackboard for 4 other students in Appendix 2. This work demonstrates relational transparency (500 words).
Feedback: You can expect feedback within 7 days using the Assessment 2 rubric.

The four goals to critique
Goal:
My goal is to have a paper published in an Australian peer-reviewed music education journal, highlighting the impact and achievements of the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums (ANSWRC), particularly as related to lessening disadvantage of students in regional, rural and remote areas of NSW.
Targets:
a. Confirm accuracy of data collected earlier this year from across ANSWRC, and analyse the data;
b. Write a draft paper;
c. Disseminate the paper to stakeholders for feedback (ie to Heads of Agency of the regional conservatoriums, and their governing Boards)
d. Submit to a chosen journal’s editorial committee
Pathway:
a. Communicate regularly with regional conservatorium Heads of Agency for clarification and confirmation of data. Analyse the data relating to:
i. Number and types of schools within which the conservatoriums work
ii. Location of schools
iii. Socio-education advantage/disadvantage of the schools
iv. Programs offered by the conservatoriums
a. Use the data analysis to:
a. Determine its significance in relation to existing literature and current government documents
ii) align with priorities from these documents
iii) write this into a reporting document
a. Share the draft document with Heads of Agency of the regional conservatorium network asking for feedback, particularly noting omissions, inaccuracies, etc
b. Select an appropriate journal to which the paper could be submitted
a. ensure the paper is consistent with required formatting; referencing; etc.
ii) Submit the paper, and attend to any requested editing.
Explanation:
There is much evidence that students in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia are subject to educational disadvantage, (egHalsey, 2018; NSW DoE, 2021), and the regional conservatorium network within which I work has capacity and potential to broaden access and increase equity for these students through a variety of programs and activities. The process outlined above will allow me to explore and develop my own self-efficacy, optimism, hope and resilience, as well as that of ANSWRC.
2.
Goal: To replace an old garage with a new shed/carport.
Targets to achieve this goal:
1. Purchase and install a smaller shed which will later become a garden shed.
2. Engage with local Council for planning permits and permit to demolish existing garage and construct a new shed with carport.
3. Demolish existing garage with specialist removal of asbestos walls and solar panels.
4. Purchase and install an appropriately sized shed with a carport annex.
Strategy to achieve these targets:
· Consult with steel shed providers for quotes, timeframes and services (for example, will they also arrange the concrete slabs for me? Will they work with the local Council for planning and building permits?).
· Settle on a new shed design and smaller shed size.
· Find an asbestos removal specialist and electrician to decommission the existing shed and remove asbestos safely.
· According to Council requirements, prepare underground works for drainage, water tanks and groundwater control.
· Store bulky items in the smaller shed while the old garage is removed and the new shed is built.
· Set up new shed for vehicle storage, workshop. Use a smaller shed for garden equipment.
The rationale for this goal and strategy:
The old garage on our property is old, small andugly(!), with asbestos walls and questionable electrical wiring for the existing solar panels. When this structure is removed my self-efficacy will be stronger because there will finally be a new, useful, aesthetic structure on the property. There is hope that I will be able to use the extra space for projects that takes my mind off work (and study), which will also develop resilience in my professional life.
3.
Goal:
The goal I am setting for myself is for career advancement, I am committed to my individual personal development. My goal I have set for myself is to be promoted to an A05 or A06 (Manager level) within 12-14 months. Currently I am a level A04 (Supervisor) and have been for quite some time, have been quite happy whilst the children have required my flexible arrangements throughout their school years. Now that my last child is in year 9 next year, I feel this is the time to concentrate on my career.
1. Interested avenues – Finance or Human Resources
2. 8 months goal – gain Graduate Certificate
3. 12 months applied and gained a position as a level A05 or A06
Strategy or pathway to achieve my goal:
1. Enrol and undertake further studies – this step has commenced.
2. Update my resume and selection criteria template
3. Start applying for positions of interested fields
I feel this is attainable and a realistic goal, challenging but also rewarding.
4.
Published
In the next 6 months, I would like to establish myself in a leadership role in my football club.
Sub Goals:
· Attending every training, including optional trainings
· Being punctual – arriving to club trainings, games, and meeting before start
· Arrange days in pre-season for groups of players to endure extra sessions (at least twice a month until February)
· Engage twice a week in extra’s after training, including packing up equipment and cleaning club room
Strategies:
· Speaking regularly with currently leaders in the playing group and coaching staff to get a gage of their movements around the club
· Watching over game footage and communicating openly in team discussions
· Establish a schedule for trainings and games for preparation
· Develop an understanding of each player and their previous playing experiences
· Prior to starting training I will try and talk to somebody that I have not spoken to much before
Being somebody who has suffered many injuries in the past 3 years, I have felt as though my involvement in the club has also suffered as well as my morale. This has affected my mindset and my approach to playing football in recent years. Not only have I decided to make my goal to attain a leadership role within my club, but I have also done so to increase my positive psychological state outside of working hours, in particularly my confidence in completing tasks, making a positive attribution, and showing resiliency after an injury affected past.
The goal I have chosen I believe is to the point and attainable for where I am at with my work/life balance, and I have hopes of this helping develop my communication skills for other areas in life.
