Written task to demonstrate understanding of the foundational social policy concepts from the unit readings:
‘welfare’ and ‘ideology’ from weeks one, two and three.



Select two of the provided speeches or newspaper articles.



Ensure that they represent two different ideological positions

for example, one
‘Social

Democratic’ and one ‘Neoliberal,’ or one ‘Third Way’ and one ‘Liberal.’



(Note there are two newspaper articles put together to form one document. There are writers as well as speakers quoted in these articles. The ideological analysis will focus on the words used by the speakers.)

SOCIAL POLICY CONCEPTS
INTRODUCTION: Social Policy concepts are the various styles with which government intends to uplift the society via various program
s that it seeks to pursue in its agenda either as an election manifesto or as a yearly budgetary spends. Today we will review two styles of social policy known as Third Way and Liberalism, understand the difference between them via two newspaper articles representing two national leaders channelising their thoughts as a part of these policy. Let us first understand the basic meaning of these policies followed by a comparison of their component. Third way policy is a major amalgamation of right-wing and left-wing politics by combining the centre-right economic policies with centre-left social policies whereas liberalism can be defined as moral right based agendas on the grounds of liberty, rights of individual, equality before law.
DISCUSSION
In the first part where I present the Third Way, I would refer to Prime Minister Abbott “Closing the Gap-2015” where he refers to the various social and economic gaps that needs to be filled along with the mention of the gaps that has been closed. Citing country above parties, PM Abbott was quick to address that the gap filling is not just responsibility of Government but also an equal responsibility of citizens to participate.
