No, I strongly disagree using seclusion as an essential method to cure mental health of patients. When we talk about mental health and well-being, I feel seclusion is not essential in the acute mental health setting. Although it is a known fact that seclusion is primarily used in health services especially in mental care scenario to cure problems. However, there were numerous amounts of ill-effects on patients as well as nurses due to this seclusion. For instance, in country like China, excessive clinical utilisation of seclusion was slowly accelerating that had resulted to onset of various ethical dilemma which had drawn public attention and concerns (Huf, G., Coutinho, E. S., Ferreira, M. A., Ferreira, S., Mello, F., & Adams, C. E., 2011). If we deep dive into the issue we will realise the fact that since the nursing staff was heavily occupied and due to limitation of workforce, there was adoption of seclusion as a coercive intervention handling behaviour of patients who were agitated and aggressive (Georgieva, I., Vesselinov, R., & Mulder, C. L., 2012). Therefore, dilemmas in healthcare especially about the way’s patients are taken care raises numerous health questions. In order to balance nurse's responsibilities to protect patients with their obligations to prevent from ay harm seclusion was considered as one of the most popular practice in psychiatric settings. As per the enactment of Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 is an effort to safeguard the rights of patients those are mentally ill and empower citizens to decide on the ways of treating mental illness rather than neglecting them in the name of care (Roberts, D., Crompton, D., Milligan, E., & Groves, A., 2009).
