Articulate why there is a need for victims' rights Every state now has a set of legal rights for crime victims in its code of laws, often called a Victims' Bill of Rights. These generally include the victim's right to be notified of proceedings and the status of the defendant, to be present at criminaljustice proceedings and to make statements at trials, to receive restitution trom a convicted offender, and to be consulted about trial procedures, such as when a plea is ollered.
