As you enter the dissertation or applied doctoral project phase of your program, you are going to be asked over and over what you are studying or researching. While it is unlikely that you will know your exact research questions and research design at this time, you should be able to summarize your area or areas of interest and what you view as the problem or question to be addressed by your research. Being able to articulate this succinctly will allow you to communicate to your potential chairs, committee members, and other students to enlist their engagement and support. It will also help you to network professionally as you look to gather additional resources, permission, and support for your work.
