Introduction
The process of community development refers to a mechanism where all people come together to take action what is important to them. The simple meaning of the community development is that all people should have access to the necessary things. These necessary requirements include wealth, justice, opportunity, wellbeing and health. As mentioned by Nembudani (2017), it has been identified that some class or group of people are excluded from the society and may be oppressed by other community and society in any direct and indirect way. This acts as a barrier for structural development of the society as a whole.
What social issue is the project/program addressing?
Social justice is concerned with the ways, in which benefits and burdens are distributed among the members of a society. As stated by Thebe (2016), this includes the fairness, in which a society provides, protects and recognizes the means and qualities individuals require to both determining a conception of and life, a good life. For this project, the community development role would be educational in nature. Exercise and healthy food program for those living with disabilities and allies/supporters is the topic of the community development program.
Why have you chosen to use community development?
It has observed that people with some kind disability are gaining weight. Their disability would not lead those living normal lives and doing normal exercise as they supposed to do. The majority of disabled people can still do some form of modified exercises with the less disabled parts of their body. There is definitely value in exercising what they can. Giving up on exercise just because they cannot do squats or barbell raises and deadlifts or sprint on a treadmill means your frame of mind may need coaching. Simple movements like kiegel exercises, limb raises, unloaded limb range of motion exercises, limb elevation and holding static against gravity, hand bicycle, yogic breathing diaphragm exercises, isometric muscle contractions, aquatic activity all potentially provides great benefits.
A person with physical disabilities have to think twice if they want to visit the cinema, go to their hairdresser, go to a club or even go for a drive by the beach side. In order to lead normal lives, people with disabilities need to live independent lives. As informed by Shpigelman, Zlotnick and Brand (2016) By independent It do not necessarily mean being able to do things by themselves, It mean that they should have the choice to do whatever they want, when they want to do it.
This community program directs to develop and address the needs of the disabled people. It creates an informal community group of people so that they can come up and share their experience. This will help in raising the awareness about disabled people live, their difficulties and possible solution that might help them. The community development project focused on giving all the support that they can get to change and encourage healthy lifestyle and exercise accessible by all.
What is the purpose of the project/program? Goals and objectives?
The objective is to deal with physical challenges and fitness among disabled people community project starts with Caregivers can be paid or unpaid and they would help a person to carry out their daily living activities like moving out of the bed, pushing their wheelchair, help with eating and maybe household activities. No matters for how long the disabled people use technology to make their life easy and normal. One always needs a social circle to talk and share. It's the same as normal people. the disabled do not ask for special treatment they ask for equal treatment.
The objective this community development plan is to help disabled people making good choices. In addition to it, it also assists disabled people to help their disabled friends, as studies shows that bad peer groups are majorly responsible for lack of exercise, social exclusion and bad health due to bully and depression. This community program is a two-way educational program that focuses on providing better social life to disabled people and addresses their needs. This community program will be guidance to the caretaker to deal with their social exclusion and lifestyle challenges of disabled people or even every care givers to share information on how they can handle exercise and healthy lifestyle challenge in disabled people.
