  1. You are expecting your first baby and are thinking about sleeping arrangements. You have heard of the concept of "the family bed" and are considering having the baby sleep with you and your spouse.

  2. You are expecting your first child and are interested in breastfeeding your baby. You would also like to return to work relatively soon. You have to decide how valuable breastfeeding is and whether you can work and breastfeed.

  3. Your 12-year-old step-daughter tells you that you are not her real mother (or father) and can't tell her what to do.

  4. You are extremely concerned because your 11-year-old son has been suspended from school numerous times for fighting. He just can't seem to get along with other children.

  5. You and your spouse have just decided to divorce. Your 7-year-old is very upset about this change.

  6. Your parents were over for dinner the other night. Your 6-year-old did not want to eat the beans you served, or the fish. Your parents said that you should have insisted that he/she should have had some, and that you should insist on this as a regular practice in your home.

  7. Your 9-year-old is frequently sad and feels that nobody likes him/her. A friend has just suggested that maybe he/she is suffering from childhood depression.

  8. Your daughter is having a great deal of difficulty in school. You think she may have learning disabilities. You would like to get the school system to evaluate her and help plan a program for her.

  11. Your 6-year-old has just been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

  28. Your 16 year old comes into the house after attending a party, smelling of cigarettes and marijuana.

  29. Your 15-year-old is student council president, captain of the lacrosse team, plays the piano, teaches Sunday school, volunteers at the local soup kitchen, is taking 5 Advanced Placement courses, and is a member of National Honor Society.

  30. Your 18-year-old insists on marrying his/her high school sweetheart at graduation, although receiving several full scholarships to various colleges, as well as several promising internships. In addition, the sweetheart is a LOSER!

Part 1: Setting the Scene (35 points, 5%) Due Monday, February 4th at 11:59pm


Choose one of the Lot of Life scenarios. You should elaborate on the scenario by writing a letter to a relative or close friend or a diary/journal entry from the perspective of a parent writing about his or her child. Your letter/diary should explain what happened in detail, identify the issues you will need to consider and research in coming up with a solution, and a plan of action for how you will deal with the situation.


Your paper should have a cover sheet that lists your name, the BEHS 343 section number, and the scenario you have chosen. Your paper should be double spaced and use a standard font (e.g. Times New Roman, 12 pt)


Each writing assignment must be submitted to

PRIOR to the due date and its Originality Report must have a similarity rating of 20% or less; this is worth 10 points.











Part 2: Doing the Research (60 points, 15%)




Prepare a short (4-6 pages) research paper that identifies several key issues related to the scenario you chose for your Lot in Life. Incorporate at least 8-10 scholarly, credible, and current references to support your ideas, drawing primarily from government and community agencies as well as scholarly journals and books. Include in-text citations and a reference list in APA format.




Your paper should have a cover sheet that lists your name, the BEHS 343 section number and the scenario you have chosen. Your paper should be double-spaced and use a standard font (e.g. Times New Roman, 12 pt). Be sure to include a reference list at the end of your Part 2 assignment.

Part 2: Key Issues Identified in the Chosen Scenario
1. Breach of Permissible Age for Having Sex
    In the given scenario, it is seen that the boy, whos
e mother found condom in his trouser pocket was only 25 years old, which is way below the permissible age of having sex. As mentioned by Palmer, Clarke, Ploubidis and Wellings (2019), having sex in early teenage leads to psychological and physiological degradation, as a precaution to which a minimal age for having sex is determined. It is worth the mention that, depending on the culture and the social traditions the legal age for having sex varies in different countries. In United States of America, 18 years has been determined as the permissible age of mutual sex with partner (Age of Consent, 2019).
    It is found that breaching of the permissible age not only draws in legal complication for minors, it also brings in changes in the psyche of the young persons, making them deviated from studies and social interactions. The breaching of age requires sexual activities to take place where the surveillance is lacking, which also increases the chance of criminal activities. Conducting sexual activities before the permissible age also increases the chances of injury and transmission of diseases. As opined by Pivatti, Osis and de Moraes Lopes (2019), as young people get engaged in sex at an early age, they feel passive guilt in their subconscious, which makes them inclined towards substance abuse. Considering the facts relating to permissible age for sex and its breaching, it has to be mentioned that John must be provided with proper guidance before he is deviated from his career and studies.
2. Psychological Effects of Sex due to Lack of Maturity
    In the course of the current scenario, it is found that the psychological changes a teenager goes through immediately after his or her puberty can often lead them towards negativity. As mentioned by Tanaka, Furuhashi and Yabushita (2019), when a child reaches the age of puberty hormonal changes starts to trigger changes in the thought process and sexual desires start to develop, which gets amplified by the exposure to teenagers of opposite sex, having the same sexual desire, resulting in sex among minors. It is also mentionable that as hormonal changes take place, the sexual curiosity increases and in order to know the unknown facts about sex, teenagers get into sexual activities, which lead them to facing psychological and physiological issues.
    It is also found that in order to get a proper idea and overcome the initial bad experiences, teenagers get involved in sexual activity repetitively. As mentioned by McKetta and Keyes (2019), as the aspect of sex emerges as new and inexperienced areas for teenagers, they develop inferiority complex in front of the grownups and even to seniors in schools and colleges, who have not reached mature age. The inferiority complex makes the teenagers not approach adults for guidance, as a result of which, they get involved in sex before permissible age. It is also seen that after puberty the teenagers notice their secondary sexual characteristics, which also affects their psychology and make them exposed to sexuality at an early age. Considering the scenario of John, it can be assumed that he has also undergone the psychological changes of puberty and has engaged in active sex, relying only on the use of condom as the sign of his maturity.
3. Improper Exposure to Sexual Knowledge and Sex Education
    Despite the development of academic incorporation of sex education and repetitive campaign on the role of parents in guiding their children about sex from an early age, sex has been retained as a taboo subject and matter of confidentiality. Based on the events taking place in the scenario, it can be ascertained that John has not been properly guided by his parents.
