1) The basic distinction between being sad and being unhappy, according to Dalrymple, is the diverse choices that differ
ent people make. He went on to say that both despair and unhappiness are emotional states that people experience as a result of their various decisions. He also noted that unhappy persons frequently misdiagnose themselves as depressed and refer to themselves as sad rather than "unhappy." Unhappiness is often the outcome of poor life choices, according to Dalrymple, whereas depression is a medically diagnosable disorder that is independent and external to people. He went on to say that a nutritious diet, regular exercise, proper sleep, and regular interaction will help patients overcome their sadness.
I'm not totally convinced and in support of his argument, and my interpretation of the two differs slightly. While I agree that people frequently confuse their dissatisfaction with depression, I believe there is a significant distinction between the two. This is because scientific data suggests that depressed people have different brain functioning than non-depressed people. So we should not mix unhappiness with depression as both are two different clinically. Being unhappy can be understood as a state of mind at a given whereas depression is a psychological condition of our mind...
