Read these short articles about a farmer in California who was arrested for
plowing on his own land. Article 1, Article 2. Do you feel that the regulations
under which he was arrested are in the public interest? Were the farmer's
rights unfairly taken away?
A close and thorough reading of both the articles will surely make one
understand the flaw on the part of government to overlook the importance of some
fundamental rights. The bureaucracy has always a knack to impose its undue authority
on common public in the name of law, order and public interest. And in the case of
Taung Ming-Lin the authoritarian tendency of the federal agents are clear. The claim
which the federal authorities made on the issue of this case was that they were
convicting Mr. Lin due to jeopardizing deliberately the endangered species by ordering
the plowing of land. The conviction, in my opinion was baseless, as the federal agents
did never give solid proof that the process of plowing surely did cause death to some
endangered species. Moreover, the claim of the federal authorities that they were suing
Lin to fulfill public interest...
