1) The control centre of respiration is located in medulla oblongata which is
involved every minute in the respiration process. It involves in sending signals to the muscles that control respiration function.
a) Role of ventral respiratory group:
These are the column of neurons which trigger action potentials in phase with respiration. They include both the neurons for both inspiration and expiration.
b) Role of dorsal respiratory group:
They are mostly the inspiratory neurons and is located in the medulla bilaterally. They control the basic rhythm of breathing process by initiating the inspiratory pulses to the motor nerves of the muscles and the diaphragm.
c) Role of Pontine respiratory centres:
This respiratory centre is involved in the generation and maintains the rhythm of respiration. They also regulate the adjustment to the homeostatic response to the physiological changes.
