Assignment Introduction and Learning Goals
In this assignment, students will create an annotated bibliography from a list of select sources. Students' annotations will both summarize and reflect upon each source in their bibliography.

Assignment Instructions
An annotated bibliography is a Works Cited list that contains a brief summary and evaluation of each of the listed sources. See OWL'sWhat is an Annotated Bibliography?for specific guidelines to follow for composing an annotated bibliography.
To complete this assignment, follow these steps:
Step 1:Choose and readtwo (2)sources from the list below:
***Note: if you have previously taken this course and submitted this assignment, you cannot use previously submitted work and must choose new sources.
Step 2:Provide theMLA citationforeachof the sources you have chosen from the above list. See OWL'sMLA Formatting and Style Guidefor help with composing your citations.
- Remember to observe the following guidelines:
- You need to include two (2) sources.
- The information that you need to include for the MLA citation (as well as the formatting of this information) will vary according to thetype of source(ie. the format for a printed source differs from a web article, etc.).
- You need to arrange your sourcesalphabeticallyaccording to the source author's name (for individual authors, alphabetize according to the author's last name).
- Your citation should use ahanging indent. (If you are using MS Word, highlight the citation and press Ctrl-T.)
- Do notnumber or bullet your sources.
- Do notinclude active hyperlinks or underline URLs. (If you are using MS Word, highlight the hyperlink, right-click, and select "Remove Hyperlink.")
Step 3:Compose an annotation foreachof your sources.
- Your annotations should consist oftwoparts that meet the following criteria:
- In the first paragraph,summarize(approximately300-400words) themain arguments or ideasthat the source offers. Remember to use signal phrases to attribute ideas to the source author (and to provide page numbers if required). Although you may usedirect quotationsof key terms, phrases, or ideas,your summary should be mostly in your own words.
- In the second paragraph, brieflyassess or reflecton the source's main arguments or ideas (approximately200-250words). You can use some of the following questions to guide your critical assessment:
- Do you agree or disagree with the source author's arguments? Why or why not?
- What did you learn from or found interesting from the source?
- What questions or ideas does the source provoke?
- Remember follow these formatting requirements:
- Write in complete sentences
- Double space paragraphs (line spacing is set to 2)
- Indent the beginning the line of a paragraph (use the TAB key or 5 spaces)
- Use left text alignment.
- Use a 11-12 point typeface like Arial or New Times Roman

This assignment will be graded out of24marks.

Note: each of your annotations will be graded for Summary and Critical Thinking. Here is the specific break down of the mark distribution:
- Source #1: 8 marks (4 marks for Summary, 4 marks for Refection)
- Source #2: 8 marks (4 marks for Summary, 4 marks for Reflection)
- MLA Citation & Formatting: 4 marks
- Spelling & Grammar: 4 marks
Total: 24 marks
