INSTRUCTOR FOR LECTURE AND LAB: Professor Abell PREREQUISITES: Material presented in this course is based on the expectation that students satisfactorily completed BIO 105 and BIO 211 with a grade of C or better and students bring to AP II a solid foundation in the chemical, cellular, tissue, and integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous systems of the human body. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is a continuation of Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 211). This course presents the human body by the systems approach discussing the normal anatomy of each system followed by up-to-date physiological concepts. Covered this semester are the endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Laboratory sessions will parallel the material covered in lecture. Dissection is required. COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course is designed to provide a comprehensive study of the structural organization (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the human organism. Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to: 1. list and define the important anatomical terminology of the body 2. understand the physiology concepts of homeostasis 3. explain how the body’s metabolic functions 4. describe the structure and function of the endocrine system 5. describe the structure and function of the cardiovascular system 6. describe the structure and function of the lymphatic system 7. describe the structure and function of the respiratory system 8. describe the structure and function of the digestive system 9. describe the structure and function of the urinary system 10. describe the structure and function of the reproductive system Students should refer to their textbook for the Learning Outcomes listed at the beginning of each chapter as well as refer to the Learning Outcomes and Lists that I have put up on BLACKBOARD for the specifics from each chapter that is covered in the course. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS: Lectures, Labs, Exams, Practicals, Quizzes, Worksheets STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY / ATTENDANCE POLICY: This class is ONLINE. There are no scheduled class meetings.
