Analysis on Food Security

Overview

The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth. They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked you to consider:

The member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere, every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective and nutritional agricultural practices. The crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain control of the population and their power by limiting access to nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby "weaponize" food.

Your second project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop an analysis that addresses three issues related to global food insecurity caused by global population growth and poverty, and to explore these issues in a developing country of your choosing.

Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security

  1. What forms of technology can be used to reduce hunger and improve food security?

  2. How would these technological solutions work?

  3. What causes of food insecurity do these technologies address?

Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country

  1. Considering the causes of food insecurity, what factors interrupt the flow of food from the source to the people in the developing country you selected?

Conclusion

  • Provide a conclusion of half a page minimum that includes a summary of your findings that the United Nations can use to inform future policy decisions.

Success Tips

  • In answering each question, use examples from your developing country to illustrate your points.

  • The U.N. needs facts and objective analysis on which to base future policy decisions. Avoid personal opinion and make sure your answers are based on information you find through research.

Formatting Requirements

  • Make sure your paper consists of 4–6 pages of content (or 1,200 words minimum, not including the cover or reference pages).

  • Create headings for each section of your paper as follows:

    • Section I. Background.

Food Insecurity:
Introduction:
Food is a basic need of human sustenance or for that matter for any living being. So it’s a top priority to stop the wastage of food as still many across the globe are devoid of two square meals a day. The topic that will be covered here
is food insecurity in the world and to understand it better we will discuss about a developing country like Nigeria from Africa. Food insecurity in developing countries is a huge concern as all the people do not get proper food to eat and is attributed to factors like irregular income, improper food distribution logistics and network. unstable government and policies, food wastage, poor economy and cash flow in the system, remote town and villages with poor communication. The three sections that will be covered here would be the background, use of technology to reduce hunger and improve food security, specific factors for food insecurity in Nigeria, as being discussed here. If we talk about Nigeria than insurgency is also major factor for food insecurity in the country.
Section I: Background:
If we talk about food insecurity than it can be better described as the limited and uncertain limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods for human consumption and livelihood. For proper survival, each individual in this planet needs at least two square meals a day but due to various reasons people do not get enough food and suffer from food insecurity and it becomes a matter of concern as the persons are not able to procure adequate amount of health food every day for consumption and survive. For instance, in Nigeria gender inequality is a major cause of food insecurity as women are the major workforce in the agricultural sector which are not even paid properly at times.
Population growth is a major factor for food insecurity in developing countries due to the increasing demand of food. The economic conditions are not that great so with the limited income its difficult to feed more individuals in a family. Population growth impacts food supply system and the access of healthy food. In a country like Nigeria which has remote villages and town food insecurity is linked with population growth as there is a rise in fragmentation of land and resettlement policies and also the reduction in agricultural land to cater to the increasing population. The marginal lands used for food production do not have good production and high yields to feed all the mouths properly resulting in food insecurity.
