The Immense contribution of Immigrants in America
Immigrants have been a part of the American population since long. Many have settled in for generations and have survived both ease and hardship with the country. The recent “public charge” launched by the Department of Homeland Security that seeks to reject immigrant applications that have or could receive public benefits, seems to undermine not just all the struggles of the immigrants but also their immense contributions that has benefited this country for so long.
The reason cited by the government is the assumption that those seeking public benefits area burden on the economy rather than a contribution and should thus be removed from the US so that the local population can use these benefits. However, immigrants contribute to the economy in many other indirect ways.
