Starting with Problem 3.15, suppose the splitter split fraction
α6 is adjusted so that the combined reactor feed gas (reactor
in stream 2) contains 18 mol % CH4. Calculate all flows in
the process. Again, assume a basis of 1000 mol/h for the feed
stream (stream 1).
(a) Use Goal Seek to vary the split fraction α6, the goal being
that the mole fraction of methane in stream 2 is 18%.
Show yourself that Goal Seek will not work.
(b) Use Solver to vary the split fraction until the mole fraction of methane in stream 2 is 18%. Constraints on the
split fraction may be needed to keep α6 feasible.
