Although you might have impressions and perhaps some experiential knowledge of the social changes going on in the communities where you’ve lived, we bet that you’ve learned some things from this report. Use this information as a starting point to write an investigation of your own. In all cases, you will be composing what is primarily an argument based on facts. (See Chapters 4 and 8 for additional information.) You might, for example, (a) interview older people in your community (or a community you’ve lived in) about how, based on their impressions, the demographics of the community have changed over the past ten, twenty, or thirty years with respect to the presence of people who speak a language other than English; (b) use this report and information from the references it cites (census data or other reports) to provide a detailed, factual argument about how the community you now live in (or one you have lived in) has changed with respect to the presence of other languages there; or (c) propose another topic that uses these data as a starting point
