Although there are standard milestones of language development, there are also factors that can influence speech and language development and learning. Students are exposed to different cultures, languages and family backgrounds, and thus they will not all have the same rate of development for written and spoken language.


Design a 10-12 slide presentation that addresses:



  • Research of the systems of written language (function, meaning, forms, and meaning-form link). In addition, address spoken language (pragmatics, semantics, syntax, and phonology).

  • A brief review the developmental milestones of children developing their speech and language skills.

  • How developmental delays or disabilities can affect children’s speech and language development.

  • How culture and bilingual language development can affect children’s speech and language development.

  • Three strategies that can be used to enhance children’s speech and language development.

  • An example of how the three strategies described above could be modified to address the unique needs of ESL students and students with speech impairments.
