Although occasionally tender nodules are present, Dupuytren's contracture is commonly not painful.
An open surgical procedure (fasciectomy or excision of the palmar fascia) should be performed if a 20- to 30-degree flexion contracture of the ulnar metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint results from Dupuytren's contracture.
