Although a musician might have practiced in preparation for her recital, she could still feel anxious when she goes on stage. Once she begins to play, however, and focus on the music, her anxiety might disappear and be replaced by tremendous relief, even elation. The first emotion (anxiety) was followed by its opposite (relief).
