Especially for people who are migrating from one country to another may be to pursue higher education or in look-out for better employment opportunities or due to change in personal relationship, these are specific target audience who needs to be aware about different cultures. Individuals who possess sound cross-cultural knowledge as well as have high level of cultural intelligence finds it very easy to embrace the difference. This is because, with essential skills like cultural intelligence and awareness, individuals can form a crucial role in bridging the divides, breaking the stereotypes as well as gaps in knowledge in a society, organisation or any community they become a part of. Transferring of knowledge is very important while working/living with people from different cultures as well as educating the peers about how norms in culture functions. By the virtue of this final research paper, I have focused on the topic Cultural Intelligence and its relevance in order to thrive in life. Culture without a doubt has a profound influence on how one behaves, respond to stimuli and take actions in the society as well as get affected by several actions in various part of the world. Some people come from High-Context Culture like India, Greece etc. while others come from Low-Context Culture like USA, Germany etc (Stewart, B., L., and Mendenhall, M., 2020). Understanding different culture is very important to gain cultural competence like development of interpersonal as well as intrapersonal skills.
Literature Review
In process of developing the cross-cultural awareness and knowledge, one will be able to learn important skills like communicating with people from various different cultures. This requires one need to absorb information, keen observation skills, clarifying the doubts through questions etc. Comprehending different cultural knowledge is crucial to strike a communication with others, develop bonds and generate productive output from life in general. I have performed extensive analysis on comparing, contrasting and finding similarities between the two award winning novels. First book that I have selected for my research is "Interpreter of Maladies" by Jhumpa Lahiri which is amalgamation of 9 stories and have also win Pulitzer Award for best story line (Lahiri, J., 2000). The second book that I have selected for my research "The Museum" by Leila Aboulela. Both the books have very strong message for the readers and leaves us with some important key takeaways. Furthermore, in this report you are going to find the comparison on themes in two stories, essentially talking about their similarities and difference. Deep diving into the lead characters of both the stories to explain the key learnings. Living in culturally diverse environment like Das family was situated in the United States of America although they originally belonged to India. Since Mr. Das's parents were working in USA, hence their children also grew up in America.
Jhumpa Lahiri is an immigrant who have faced many challenges because cultural transitions and issues of identifying with different cultures. She has encapsulated her personal experience to create stories that transports people across broader and help them explore different aspects. In the book "Interpreter of Maldives", author Ms. Lahiri essentially talks about challenges faced by Das family in adapting American culture having roots in Indian culture (Lahiri, J., 2000).

This quotation came into picture in the second half of the book and build on the central theme of lack of cultural awareness that breads challenges in communication. This is specially seen in the book between native Indian vis-a-vis American Indian. This quote comes from the book where the Das family were highlighting the ways they aren’t like Indian and ways in which they are still Indian. In fact, as the family seems both American and Indian forms part of what traps Mr. Kapasi into assuming that he can communicate intimately with Mrs. Das and that she is also interested in him. Usually, with all other tourists who are non-American, Mr. Kapasi immediately maintains required distance. Therefore, with his different clients and tourists, who are unfamiliar yet non-Indian, Mr. Kapasi promptly keeps a suitable separation. He looks for no kind of association, nor does he hope to see as one. Nonetheless, the similitudes between Mrs. Das and Mr. Kapasi lead him to erroneously figure they will track down something critical in like manner. Their loaded connection signals to the possibility that the social hole between Indian workers and those they abandon in India can be gigantic, a hole that enlarges further between the outsiders and second-age Americans brought into the world in the United States.
