Johnson's Great Society reforms and President Nixon's domestic reforms were both significant in terms of their impact on the American welfare state, but they represented fundamentally different approaches to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. The Great Society reforms, which were implemented in the 1960s, were characterized by an expansive vision of the federal government's role in providing social welfare services. Johnson's administration sought to address a broad range of issues, from poverty and education to healthcare and civil rights (Robinson, 2020).
