Introduction
Organizational commitment is defined as a perception of the psychology of a member towards his/her organization and the resultant inclination to the organization that he/she is working for. Organizational commitment can be used as a predictor of employee happiness and engagement and can be used to distribute leadership or gauge job insecurity. Organizational commitment majorly drives an employee’s decision on whether he/she is willing to stick to the organization for a longer period of time and work dedicatedly on a daily basis towards fulfilling his tasks which are aligned with the organization’s goal.
Organizational Commitment
Organization commitment is very critical for any organization’s success as employees who are satisfied and committed work better and also improve the productivity of the organizations (Oshagbemi, 1997). There is a definite positive causal relationship between organizational commitment and the emotional state of an employee, as organizational commitment deeply impacts several aspects of behaviour such as citizenship activities and performance on the job, which positively correlates with an organization (Jaros 1997).
Importance of Organizational Commitment- Relationship with Job Satisfaction
Organizational commitment binds an individual to an organization because it is a psychological state. Organizational productivity and employee’s wellbeing can be influenced by organizational commitment (Meyer and Herscovitch 2001). An individual’s nature of relation with an organization ultimately influences his/her decision to stay loyal to the organization. Alternatively, organizational commitment can be defined the degree of conviction the staff feels towards organizational gaols and values. It also refers to an employee’s tendency towards making significant efforts in representing organization as well as taking high interest in maintaining one’s membership in organization. Organizational commitment is an important factor in order to get familiar with organizational behaviour and this has been found in researches. The degree to which an employee gets satisfied in their different stages of job varies from person to person and is called as job satisfaction. For example, in healthcare industry men are happier with their job than women. Job satisfaction is a viewpoint of a person for their job. Job satisfaction is derived from earnings, work and colleagues. If there is an obligation and commitment associated with one’s job, then that person will be more satisfied with the job- this can be referred to a positive feeling of an individual. In any person’s life work plays an important role as the maximum time of one’s life is spent at office, so the matters related to job satisfaction is very vital. If an employee has task identity, autonomy, task identity, necessary skill sets and positive feedback, then he/she will invariably have job satisfaction.
There have been several studies in the past to analyse how to increase organizational commitment in workplace. He built a relationship between justice and behaviour in organization and he realised that it is vital to have procedural justice to maintain continuance and normal commitment, and for affective commitment it requires interactional justice instead of distributive justice which did not gain much importance in this study.
