albert Bandura (1925– ) was born in the small town of Mundare in alberta, canada. after receiving his bachelor’s degree from the university of British columbia, he emigrated to the uSa, receiving his Phd in psychology from the university of Iowa in 1952. The next year, he received a position at Stanford university, where he is currently the david Starr Jordan professor in social sciences. Bandura’s interests in social psychology and development led him to the study of learning in children, which led to several ground-breaking studies on the role of imitation in human learning. Together with leonard Berkowitz, he has been one of the pioneers of the social learning approach, which emphasizes the importance of imitation and cognitive mediation in learning. his influence has been recognized on many occasions, including a distinguished Scientist award from the american Psychological association and a guggenheim Fellowship. he lives with his family in Stanford, California, where he continues to teach and write.
