Alaska, California, and Hawaii are the states with the most earthquakes, and over 50% of the earthquakes in the United States occur in Alaska. A random sample of earthquakes around the world during July 2013 was obtained, and the magnitude of each is given in the following table.
a. An earthquake with magnitude of 1.0 to 4.0 is considered weak and generally causes minor or no damage. Is there any evidence to suggest the true mean magnitude of earthquakes is greater than 1.0? Assume the underlying distribution is normal and use a = 0.05.
