Aims:This course aims to provide the student with opportunities to:Critically review and examine the concept of domestic abuse and identify the differingperspectives, theories and explanations for its occurrence.Examine and critically analyse values and beliefs in respect of domestic abuse including theimpact on policy and practice.Determine and critically analyse the potential impact of domestic abuse upon its survivorsespecially on children and young people.Critically evaluate the resources that might be available to support victims and perpetrators ofdomestic violence/abuse within the context of policy and practice at both a national and locallevel.LearningOutcome1Identify and debate definitions of domestic abuse and historical and currentexplanations for its occurrence.2Determine how values and beliefs may affect individual behaviour andcritically analyse the implications of this in relation to domestic abuse.3Gain knowledge of perpetrator behaviour and risk.4Explore theories of abuse and the implications for policy and practice.5Discuss current legislation and national policy in the context of improvedknowledge of the impact of Domestic Abuse.6Explore and critically analyse the different ways in which domestic abusemay affect those involved in both the short and long term.7 Critically evaluate how the voluntary and statutory agencies work withthose involved in domestic abuse within the context of national and localpolicy.
