Aim: This assessment will assess the student’s ability to critically examine the literature relating to a specific patient safety problem, identify key criteria that define best practice and critique relevant strategies for improving the quality of care and minimizing the patient safety problem.
The assignment should include: Identification of a patient safety problem relevant to your practice setting. Description of the search strategy - reports databases searched, search terms (key words and MeSH terms) and search limits (eg. Age groups, Years searched, Language). A discussion of the magnitude of the problem underlying the chosen patient safety issue. A discussion of the criteria and/or quality indicators that define best practice regarding the chosen patient safety topic and classify the criteria as structure, process or outcome measures.  An analysis and critique of the knowledge or scientific findings relevant for solving the identified patient safety problem.
