Ans: This is an ailment where the stomach bulges up and pushes against the chest with pressure on the diaphragm muscle. Physically there is bulging of the stomach in the chest cavity.
2. “My doctor told me I have gastroesophageal reflux disease. Can you explain this disease to me?” What symptoms are usually present?
Ans: This disease is something when there is irritation in the food pipe due to the stomach acids and bile. The symptoms are generally burning sensation after eating which increases when we lie down. This disease also causes acidity and heartburn.
3. What are possible etiologies of hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux?
Ans: For hiatal hernia the etiology relates to larger hiatal opening and also issues in the diaphragm due to aging. In case of gastroesophageal reflux, the etiology pertains to frequent acid reflux due to which there is acidity and heart burn sensation.
