After the Bolshevik revolution of 1917, PTA was merged with Press Bureau, another government agency, and became the Russian Telegraph Agency (ROSTA). ROSTA was created to distribute official communiqués and news items, as well as to send out propaganda material to the press in areas under Bolshevik control.
