With reference to the given text, we can realize that even if we felt hurt by someone's action in the past it is not impossible to forgive that person if we think considerately. If we take the character of the narrator’s mother we can see that she is a woman of logic who finds it easy forgive someone but not forget. She forgives narrator’s father after what she has been through for that person because a lot of time was spent and the man had done much for the need of the family. That is why she found it easy and reasonable to forgive her husband despite him hurting her number of times in the past.
The narrator initially found it quite impossible to forgive her father because she and her mother had to undergo a lot of stress because of that man and his terrible habits. Gradually when the narrator comes to realize that it will not be that difficult for her try and speak to her father for one last time she went to interview the man on the pretext of a research that allow her to realize that her father was not that bad as a man that she had thought. Instead, he was a man of struggles and a victim of fate and poor choices.
