Introduction
    The Civil war in United States was one of the costliest wars, United States ever faced in his history. The Civil war is also known as the War Between the States. The Civil war started in 1861 after years of tension between norther and southern states over many issues such as states’ rights, westward expansion, and slavery. After the appointment of Abraham Lincoln as 16th President of United States, eleven southern states joined to form confederate states of America initiated the war against northern states. This war was ended with the surrender of confederate in 1865. Since this war was the deadliest war of America, it cost the lives of around 620,000 soldiers and millions of people injured along with ruining of most part of the southern America (Randall, James Garfield, and David Donald, 2016).
Role played by Mexican American in Civil war
    The role of Mexican American was unique in the Civil war as they got divided and fought from both the side. Some had joined the confederate whereas others had joined the union. As mentioned by Avila (2018), thousands of Mexican American joined the Civil war and fought from both the sides. When the Civil war started in 1861, more than ten thousand of Mexican Americans were living in Texas, New Mexico, and California. All these territories were formerly part of Mexico which was claimed by United States in 1840s. Initially, Mexican Americans avoid participating or declaring their support to any side of the war.
