Acetylene (C2H2) is commonly used in welding, where high temperatures are required. Consider a burner that is fed with acetylene and oxygen, each at 100 kPa and 25°C, where the combustion products include only CO2, CO, H2O, and O2in equilibrium. Carbon dioxide present in the combustion products is in equilibrium with CO and CO2according to the following stoichiometric equation
a. Determine the adiabatic flame temperature as a function of excess oxygen in the range of 0–300%. b. Determine the flame temperature for the case of heat removal in the range of 0–30% of the heat of reaction of acetylene for zero excess oxygen.
