According to Ryle we could not know people’s thoughts, feelings, beliefs, pains, or intentions if these were inside people’s minds where we could not observe them. We could not even know what people were talking about when they talked about their thoughts, feelings, beliefs, etc. But we generally know people’s thoughts, feelings, etc., by observing their actions. So their thoughts, feelings, etc., must just be those actions or dispositions to engage in those actions. Do you think Ryle’s argument is sound?
