ACADEMIC Grade 10 Visual Literary Analysis ISU
GOOGLE SLIDES PRESENTATION
For your ISU Google Slides Presentation, you are to create a visual literary analysis on your ISU book (that you have selected from the library). This must be presented in Google Slides and uploaded to the Assignment Folder in D2L.
This Google Slides Presentation is worth 20% of your Final Evaluation mark
Your Google Slides Presentation should be broken up into 3 major sections and must include:
1) Background Information
MUST include:
Title of the novel, author, and publication date
A visual timeline of the major events from the novel (minimum of five), with a brief explanation of each event under the picture.
Character analysis (for the main characters) with pictures for each character.
Author biography/contributions to literature with visuals of author, etc.
Popular culture connections: A minimum of 2 examples of where you have seen a mention of your book in television, movies, art, music, etc.
2) Literary Devices
MUST include:
Theme
Symbols
Conflict
1) Imagery
2) Narrative perspective
3) Allusion
4) Irony
5) Foreshadowing
For each device you must have a visual representation as well as an analysis of how and why this device is used in the novel.
3) Annotation
MUST include:
Three annotated passages. Choose a passage from the novel, that best represents each element:
1 MUST FOCUS ON CHARACTERIZATION (find a passage – a full page…that focuses on a main character. Point out details and any aspects of direct or indirect characterization…make sure to highlight and write in the margins).
.
1 MUST FOCUS ON THEME (find a passage – a full page…that focuses on one of the main themes of the story (*Remember…a theme is NOT one word, it is a statement…a full sentence). Point out details and literary devices (metaphor, allusion, symbolism, etc.) that bring out this theme…make sure to highlight and write in the margins).
1 MUST FOCUS ON TONE (find a passage – a full page…that brings out the tone of the writing *remember, tone is described using adjectives. Point out the details that bring out this tone (ACTION, CHOICE OF DETAILS, STYLE: figurative language, diction, rhythm, sounds, NARRATIVE PERSPECTIVE)…make sure to highlight and write in the margins).
4) Creativity
At this point in time, you have read your ISU novel, and I am sure you have loved it!! You want to share your love for your novel with all those around you, so you will create a poster that will entice your classmates to select your novel so that they will select it as the next text that they read. You will be marked on:
Creativity
Colour/Drawings
A hook, maybe a memorable quote from the novel
An illustration that represents a main idea/theme/event, that represents your novel
4) Works Cited
At the end of your presentation, you must include a works cited slide for all of the sources that you used within your presentation (you do not need to cite your pictures). The works cited slide must follow correct MLA format and remember, alphabetical order. If you need help with your works cited page, please refer to the extra handouts in D2L or go to: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_works_cited_page_basic_format.html
