Abdul’s Activity
As a new elementary school counselor, Abdul thought he should use group work as a way of delivering services to the children he served. Unsure about what concerns were of highest value, he developed a needs survey and had the children fill it out. The response rate was good, but the results were troubling, because the children had listed a lot of concerns about computer games and some very shallow ways of relating to one another. Abdul decided he needed more input and formed two groups of advisors: a teachers’ group and a parent group. After meeting with both, he found they each had different opinions about what he should do.
