Introduction
Cultural diversity means to appreciate that society where different category of people is existing with different cultural values, interest, beliefs, needs, skills, talents and understanding all the different cultural perspectives of different religious peoples helps us to dispel the negative stereotypes and personal biases about a community or a social group. Therefore, initiation of Inclusive learning program can provide a fruitful learning process considering a wide range of students from various cultural background with different values, distinct, perceptions, disabilities, point of views, race, sex, gender, languages, conceptions and many more.
Cultural Diversity Issues in School
Community is a social group where various kinds of people with different values, religious, norms, identity, customs, culture, sex, gender, survive together with the mode of communication. Relationships between the individuals surviving in a community depends on the needs, risks, preferences, beliefs and trust between the individuals. Cultural diversity exist in all form within a community where different category of people stays together in different cultural perspectives.
Community means it can a school community, a society community, a college community, a workplace community and many where different cultural peoples exist together. Dealing with the cultural diversities in school where in a classroom, different students with different learning behaviour, cultural background, religion, sex, gender, different communication approaches, different languages can exist, which the teacher will have to handle alone.
The different cultural diversity issues in school are as follows:
Ethnic and Racial Identity Crisis:
In a culturally diverse classroom where the students belong from different cultural backgrounds, having different social beliefs and racial identities often suffers from several problems. As stated by Verkuyten, Thijs and Gharaei (2019), according to the social identity approach, several ethnic-racial minority group of students often faces problems within a vast culturally diverse environment in school in term of racial discrimination.
They often feel ashamed about their cultural background and therefore chooses not to participate in any of social activities in school. They often feel a target of being isolated from the other students and thus, out of depression, they select academic disengagement. Therefore, as an outcome of depression, the children belonging to these minority groups easily get involved in substance abuses and get addicted to various drugs, alcohol (NSW Government, 2021).
They experience different form of social abuses, sexual harassment, emotional and mental abuses and many more within a school community. The teacher should therefore handle the situation by understanding the inner struggle underwent by the student, should introduce the classroom composition and make the depressed student understand the importance of multicultural education. Therefore, imposing Value education plays here a huge role, which deals with the interchanging of moral value among each other’s.
As stated by Razem (2017), values education is adopted almost in every school as an important subject, which develop the inner self of the learner as well as the teachers. The teachers use this method in form of various pedagogical or in several program manner so to attract the learner towards studying value education and learn about the basic behaviours, cultures, values of the country they are existing and motivate them to participate in every academic domain.
Economic Inequality:
As stated by Jetten et al. (2017), the minority group students face several problems in a culturally diverse environment in a school community as of their lower income level of their parents. The Aboriginal and Torres islander peoples in Australia are often regarded as underclass and deprived people as they lack employment, lower income level, blackish culture and poor cultural development. These peoples lack employments, as proper deserving facilities are not provided to upgrade themselves in order to cope up with the Australian culture.
The woman here had to work hard to earn something to provide some food and other necessities to their children. Even the children here are also socially abused by the non-Indigenous groups. As an outcome of low income, the people belonging to these groups fail to provide a proper living standard to their families and as a result, they commit suicide. Unequal income level often affects the social as well as political behaviour among these groups, which are to be improved by the teacher by motivating the students as well as their family by making them understand the value of education.
As stated by Allan (2011), the teacher can also utilise the IB (International Baccalaureate) teaching techniques, which aims to transform the student’s thinking power through dynamic cycle of inquiry, reflection and action culturally keeping in mind the fundamental importance of language and cognition in a diverse classroom.
Social Identity Crisis:
As stated by Jetten et al. (2017), both the physical and mental health and mind of these minority peoples are affected as of several social factors, for which they suffer from social identity crisis. Due to this social identity crisis this people often suffer from mental health illness includes, substance abuse, which arises out of over consumptions of drugs and alcohols, obsessive compulsive disorder, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, paranoia, personality disorder, attention disability and psychological and nervous disorders.
Due to all these mental illnesses, the victims are often found to commit suicide or take several attempts to commit suicide in order to get rid of the miserable condition. As per certain evidences most of the mental health disorder arises from the poor...
