A vertical wall of area 24 m2 , at a location with a northern latitude of 35°, faces 20° west of south. The solar absorptivity of the external wall surface is 0.75. The external heat transfer coefficient and the overall U-value of the wall are 28 Wmí2 Kí1 and 0.628 Wmí2 Kí1 respectively. The ground reflectivity is 0.2. The design ambient temperature profile for the location is given in Table P10.5.1. The design indoor temperature is 24°C. The conduction RTS values for the wall, obtained from Table 16, Chapter 18 of the ASHRAE Handbook - 2013 Fundamentals [1] are given in Table P10.5.2. The non-solar RTS values appropriate to the zone, obtained from Table 19, Chapter 18 [1] are given in Table P10.5.3. For 12 June, obtain the cooling load due to heat conduction through the wall at 4 p.m., and (ii) the maximum cooling load and the time when I occurs. Assume that the optical depth parameters for the location for the month of June as, IJb = 0.337 and IJd = 2.36.
