A venturimeter is used to measure the volume flow. The pressure head is recorded by a manometer. When connected to a horizontal pipe the manometer reading was h cm. If the reading of the manometer is the same when it is connected to a vertical pipe with flow upwards and (ii) vertical pipe with flow downwards, discuss in which case the flow is highest.
Consider equation 6.6.2
As long as ‘h’ remains the same, the volume flow is the same for a given venturimeter as this expression is a general one derived without taking any particular inclination.
This is because of the fact that the manometer automatically takes the inclination into account in indicating the value of (Z1– Z2).
