(a) Using the Fellenius method of slices for slope analysis, calculate the factor of safety against a rotational slide for the following conditions:


• Slope inclination is 2 horizontal to 1 vertical.


• Trial failure arc center of rotation is 35 m above slope midpoint; arc passes through toe of slope.


• Slope height is 25 m.


• Soils are uniform to great depth (drained shear tests indicate ɸ = 15, c¿ = 15 Kn/m2
y = 17 kN/m3
table is very deep.


• Use five slices, approximately equal in width.


(b) Calculate the factor of safety for the above conditions but assuming a fully submerged slope (water level even with the top of the slope).
