A thin-walled cylindrical tube with internal diameter and thickness of 50 mm and 0.5 mm, respectively is pressurized to 2 MPa. During installation, the cylindrical tube is also subjected to a bending moment of magnitude 10 N-m. The tube is made of aluminum alloy with the yield strength of 85 MPa.
i) Calculate the stress state at the critical material point of the tube.
ii) Determine if the loading would cause failure by yielding, based on the Tresca and von Mises yield criterion. Sketch the loci of the yield criteria in the principal stress axis and indicate the stress condition.
