A study is investigating the link between alcohol use and hypertension (high blood pressure). Data have been gathered from 50 volunteers. The data consist of the number of units of alcohol consumed per day, and the end systolic blood pressure (in mmHg). These data are contained in the files“alcohol.mat” and “blood_pressure.mat”.
(i) Compute the correlation coefficient between daily alcohol units and blood pressure. Also determine the probability that this correlation value might have occurred by chance. Comment on the results. (You can assume that both sets of data are normally distributed.)
