Poem : A Storm in the Mountains

1. The imagery of lightning in the lines 15-17 that read
s “The lightning moved on, brilliant light alternating with pitch blackness, flashing white, then pink, then violet...” is so vivid and helps us to imagine how strong the lightning is yet with the use of the word “brilliant” he develops a positive connotation to it as well.

a. In the fourth paragraph, the poet writes “The lightning flashes rained down on the peaks then split up into serpentine streams… “. Here the image of lightning falling from the sky is decipiced and portrayed with might.
b. The phrase “rained down on the peaks” gives us the idea about how tremendous the lightning is since it’s something more than the peaks of the mountains that are already considered immense for the human being. The poet also uses the word “rained” instead of “fall”, which we usually use to describe lightning. When it’s raining, there won’t be just one droplet falling from the sky...
