A solid fywheel has a mass of 450 kg and a diameter of 600 mm, with an axle of diameter 100 mm and mass 50 kg. The wheel and axle are set in motion by means of a string wound round the axle and carrying a mass of 10 kg (Figure 27.15). Determine (a) the moment of inertia of the wheel and axle and (b) the kinetic energy of it when the weight reaches the foor 2 m below its starting point.
