an alloy with a yield strength of 90 MPa. The diameter of the machine component at A is 300
mm. Based on the shaft section at A:
(a) Calculate the stresses acting at the critical point of the section.
(b) Determine whether the material would yield based on the von Mises, and Tresca yield
criterion.


(c) Draw the yield loci of both the yield criteria and indicate the operating stress state on
the plot.
